I have been preparing taxes since 1982. Initially, I worked exclusively for one of the nationally advertised firms. In subsequent years, I worked at various times with several CPA firms and Enrolled Agents during tax season. In recent years, I work exclusively on returns for my own clients.
I am Enrolled Agent (EA). Obtaining that designation required that I pass a comprehensive examination by the IRS along with a background check. As an EA, I am authorized to represent clients at all administrative levels of the IRS.
Although I am not a CPA, I did meet the education requirements and have passed the exam required for this credential. I have also obtained the designations of Accredited Tax Preparer and Accredited Tax Advisor.
My pledge to clients is to do all of the following:
- treat everyone respectfully and courteously and return phone calls promptly
- devote sufficient time and attention to client interviews so as to increase the likelihood that all return issues are identified and addressed properly
- respond to client needs year-round
Return preparation is not limited to filling out forms. If I have any suggestions that might improve your tax or financial situation, I will suggest them to you. Feel free to raise questions about finances or to call at any time during the year with tax related questions dealing with issues such as home purchase or refinancing or retirement (IRA, 401(k) or TDA) contributions. This service is included as part of the return preparation fee.
I try to make my practice conform to your needs. That means that if necessary, I can make an appointment in your home as long as it’s not close to the filing deadline.
Just as the client selects the preparer, I select the client. If I cannot serve you properly, I will tell you so and if possible, refer you to someone who can deal with your needs.
Finally, my office is in my home. Thus I can offer a degree of privacy, not always available. There won’t be another person at the next desk who can listen in on your conversation. That also guarantees that I’ll be available all year round.
